CENTURY EDITION LUCKY CHERRIES

100 YEARS OF FRUIT BRANDY HISTORY - LIMITED CENTENARY EDITION LUCKY CHERRIES

Sometimes it's the little things in life that make us happy: For example, a glass of a special brandy enjoyed with family or good friends. The Emil Scheibel distillery wants to share a little happiness in its anniversary year with the limited Century Edition Glücks-Kirschen. The cuvée of aromatic sweet and sour cherries from the Ortenau region is dedicated to the company founder Emil Scheibel, who founded the distillery in Kappelrodeck 100 years ago, on April 15, 1921.

Kappelrodeck 15.4.2021. "'Happiness is the only thing that doubles when you share it', as Albert Schweitzer once said. We would like to share our moments of happiness and enjoyment over the last 100 years of the company's history with our fans and customers in the form of the Century Edition Glücks-Kirschen in our anniversary year," says Michael Scheibel, Managing Director of Emil Scheibel distillery.

It was Michael Scheibel's grandfather Emil who signed the purchase contract for the Schwarzwaldhof at Grüner Winkel 32 in Kappelrodeck on April 15, 1921, thus laying the foundation stone for the distillery 's establishment over 100 years ago. The family business is still based here today and is deeply rooted in the region. Over the generations, the distillery has also become one of the leading suppliers of high-quality and innovative brandies and spirits and is known throughout Germany as a Premium brand.

Company founder Emil Scheibel was born on November 11, 1899 in the small Black Forest village of Kappelrodeck. With so many "schnapps numbers", it is no wonder that his life in the schnapps industry was predetermined. Only a small detour, the takeover of the local flour mill run by the Scheibel family at the time, took him off the beaten track. The chronic lack of money among Black Forest farmers, who preferred to pay in kind in the form of home-distilled cherry brandy, led to Emil Scheibel joining the Black Forest schnapps industry.

"The first products Emil traded in were, how could it be otherwise in the region, cherry brandy, plum brandy and raspberry brandy," explains his grandson today. And since the company's history began with cherry brandy, it was clear to Scheibel that 100 years and two generations later, a cherry product should also be used for the anniversary. "Cherries, but above all kirsch, have a long tradition in our region and still have a special significance today. After all, what would our export hit from the Black Forest, the Black Forest gateau, be without a good shot of kirsch?" says the Managing Director.

But the Scheibel path has never been a well-trodden path, which is why the distillery has opted for a cuvée of distillates from various sweet and sour cherry varieties from the Ortenau region for the Jahrhundert Edition. "We sometimes store special vintages or treasures in our warehouse for several years. These included selected distillates from Dollenseppler, Schattenmorelle, Morellenfeuer and Weichsel-Sauerkirsch, which we distillery twice over gold in our 'neue zeit' distillery . For our Jahrhundert Edition Glücks-Kirschen, we have blended them into a unique cuvée," explains the managing director.

As each cherry variety has its own aroma and characteristics, the Jahrhundert Cuvée has a very complex aroma structure: initially, you can detect a fine aroma with a characteristic almond note, as you would expect from classic kirsch, which is later joined by light nuances of marzipan and a subtle, perfume-like fragrance. On the palate, the cuvée is powerfully aromatic with elegant hints of fruit and a delicate sweetness reminiscent of light chocolate and meringue. The intense finish is pleasantly warm with a slightly mineral note and a wonderful, long aftertaste. The edition is limited to a total of 5,000 bottles and numbered on the back label.

Of course, the taste of the product is crucial, but the right presentation is just as important. Emil Scheibel distillery therefore attaches great importance to the presentation of all its products - after all, the eye also drinks. In the case of the Century Edition, the Auria bottle is completely satin-finished and printed with real gold to make it stand out visually. The red capsule picks up on the cherry theme in terms of color, but also establishes a link to the company's history. For a long time, red was the dominant color in the family company's brand image.

The Century Edition is not the only surprise from Scheibel in its anniversary year. On March 10, Emil Scheibel's name day, the company launched the new EMILL FEINWERK whisky on the market. It adds a single malt whisky with a port cask finish to the Scheibel whisky family. "The special feature is that we grow our port casks ourselves. This means that we buy barrels and fill them with a port wine of the highest quality at our premises. After a certain period of time, the barrel is emptied and our 3-year matured whisky is poured into it. A further 100 days in the port wine finish barrel gives the product a balanced and fruity aroma and a beautiful color," says Michael Scheibel. "And further surprises in the form of new products, limited editions or promotions will follow in 2021. Stay curious."

The Scheibel Jahrhundert Edition Glücks-Kirschen is now available via the online store, locally in the distillery and from well-stocked Retailer . The recomm. RRP is €38 for the 0.7 liter bottle.
