Family tradition since 1921
Burnt in Germany
Company founder Emil Scheibel was born on November 11, 1899 in the Black Forest village of Kappelrodeck. The large number of "schnapps numbers" in his date of birth seems to indicate his later career in the schnapps industry. At that time, however, the family still ran a flour mill in the village.
Due to the farmers' lack of money, who often paid with home-distilled cherry and plum water, Emil Scheibel turned to trading in Black Forest schnapps. In 1921, he acquired a Black Forest farm with distilling rights, not far from the family mill, and founded the Emil Scheibel Black Forest distillery.
Scheibel products were previously available in glass balloons and demijohns. The year 1955 marks the beginning of bottle marketing and the introduction of innovative products, such as the Black Forest lantern at the international trade fair ANUGA in Kön, filled with cherry brandy or raspberry brandy and featuring Swiss music. In addition, the distinctive square bottle for fruit brandies is launched with the Black Forest girl motif.
After the death of Emil Scheibel, his son Louis Scheibel (born 1925) took over the management of the company. Louis created numerous innovations, introducing new products such as apricot brandy and gift ideas that attracted attention in the industry.
With the unexpected death of Louis Scheibel, his wife Gerti takes over the management of the company and quickly settles into her new role with management responsibility.
Michael Scheibel (born 1952) officially takes over the management of the distillery. In addition to commercial matters, his main focus is on marketing and design. Many unique collections are created under his leadership. Sister Martina Scheibel (born 1957) works in the company in the area of quality assurance.
As the milling business at the Scheibel mill is no longer profitable, the Scheibel family decides to concentrate entirely on the fruit distillery. The mill is closed and sinks into a deep slumber.
With the purchase of Peterhaus distillery , Scheibel expands its product portfolio to include various herbal products that are particularly popular in eastern Germany.
With the inauguration of the 'ALTE ZEIT' distillery , where distillation takes place over a wood fire, and the introduction of the characteristic Gütterle bottle for the ALTE ZEIT series, Scheibel increasingly focuses on the Premium. Under the management of Michael Scheibel, the brand develops into one of the leading producers of Premium and spirits in Germany.
Scheibel opts for an innovative approach to distillation. In the 'neue zeit' distillery , brandies are distilled over gold. The gold leaf becomes the brand symbol. With numerous product innovations such as barrel-matured fruit brandies and brandies with fruit extracts, the distillery further expands its status as a leading producer in the fruit brandy sector.
Michael Scheibel wants to breathe new life into the Scheibel mill. The idea of establishing a whisky distillery is born. Where grain used to be milled, the finest single malt whisky is to be distilled and stored in the future.
Scheibel celebrates the topping-out ceremony at Scheibel Mühle and the new whisky plant is christened. The first barley malt spirit is distilled and stored in barrels.
On July 14, Scheibel distillery opens the Scheibel Whisky Mill as a whisky distillery with its own marketplace for direct sales and a tasting room for events for up to 20 people. To start with, the company is offering two whisky products, with more to follow.
Scheibel moves into the new hall, the planning and construction of which began in 2022. With an additional 1,200 m² of space and three floors, production and the warehouse have been expanded and a total of 3.4 million euros invested. The family business is also investing in sustainability, including a heat recovery system and a 130 KW PV system.
Scheibel is one of the leading producers of fruit brandies and spirits in Germany under Managing Director Raphael Sackmann. The focus on the Premium segment and outstanding product innovations, such as the recent PREMIUMplus Moor-Birne, are important foundations of the company's success. The upmarket specialist trade and good gastronomy are important partners.
