At home in the Black Forest

Hardly any other region in Germany stands for entrepreneurship and the preservation of traditions as much as the Black Forest. At the same time, the region is known for its numerous innovations. Since 1921, the Scheibel family from Kappelrodeck has dedicated itself to creating fine fruit brandies that you can not only taste, but truly experience. And the family business is still firmly rooted in the region, the Black Forest.
A lot of fruit is traditionally grown in southwest Germany, in the Upper Rhine Graben. The Ortenau region in particular is known, one could almost say famous, for its fruit growing. This is due to the mild climate, which is very favorable for fruit growing, and the foothills of the Black Forest and the Rhine plain offer the best conditions for this. Apples, pears, cherries, plums, plums and mirabelle plums thrive there. The forests offer blackberries, raspberries and blueberries.

Development of the distillation culture

Even in the past, farmers had an abundance of fruit and often more than they could sell. For this reason, the Bishop of Strasbourg authorized the distilling of cherries for personal use in 1726. This also promoted fruit growing in the Acher and Kinzig valleys and thus the craft of distilling. In the Upper Black Forest in particular, a distinctive distilling culture gradually developed with numerous distilleries - alongside glassblowing and watchmaking, for which the inhabitants had plenty of time in winter.

Hiking in the
region

However, the Black Forest is worth a trip in many respects. Especially in the region around Kappelordeck and in the Black Forest National Park there are wonderful hiking routes. Go on a discovery tour, preferably in combination with a visit to our gold distillery or the Scheibel whisky mill.
