Gold for EMILL: Scheibel's single malt whisky Kraftwerk is "Germany's Best Whisky National 2019"

As part of the 21st InterWhisky Fair in Frankfurt, the "Germany Best Whisky Awards" of the trade magazine 'der Whisky-Botschafter' were presented for the 12th time on November 22. The title "Germany's Best Whisky National 2019" and the only gold medal on this evening went to Scheibel from Kappelrodeck with the product EMILL Single Malt Whisky Kraftwerk.

The EMILL single malt whisky from Scheibel has been on the market since July 2018. And just a few months after its launch, the team led by Managing Director Michael Scheibel is delighted to have won its first award. At the InterWhisky trade fair in Frankfurt, the Black Forest product was awarded the gold medal and the title "Germany's Best Whisky National 2019". "We have put so much heart and soul, hard work, time and passion into the product in recent years. We are really delighted to receive this award and it is the reward for all our efforts," says Managing Director and Owner Michael Scheibel.

With the Germany's Best Whisky Awards, an independent jury of the trade magazine 'Der Whisky-Botschafter' honors distillers who have made a special contribution to the love of whisky in Germany and their products. The award is based on the Whisky Guide Germany 2020, in which numerous producers and their products are presented. This year, a total of 44 products from producers were submitted to the competition. The eight-member jury, made up of enthusiasts and experts from the whisky scene, tasted the products blind and assessed them according to classic criteria such as appearance, smell, taste and overall impression, similar to the London IWSC.

"It makes us immensely proud that our product was able to convince the jury among the numerous submissions this year and that we were rewarded with the gold medal," explains Michael Scheibel. Head distiller Frank Blechschmidt, who is responsible for the company's single malt whisky, among other things, accepted the award in person at the InterWhisky in Frankfurt. "We were delighted when we heard about our nomination and now our whisky bears the title 'Germany's Best Whisky National 2019'!"

The name EMILL is made up of the first name "Emil", grandfather of Michael Scheibel and founder of the distillery, and the English word "mill", which means mill. "A tribute to our company founder and the place where we and the fruit brandies started," explains the Owner. The elegant carafes were specially designed for the product and emphasize the unique character of the Black Forest whisky, even if the equipment was not included in the evaluation in this competition.

"Our single malt is a cuvée of four different casks, with a special finishing cask," says the head distiller. The architecture of the former mill building in which the whisky is distilled today is particularly beneficial to the product during maturation. This is because the whisky is stored on a total of four floors in different temperature and climate zones. The Acher, which runs under the mill, brings additional moisture and coolness into the building. In summer, almost tropical temperatures of up to 45 degrees prevail under the roof, while in winter it can get icy cold - minus 10 degrees is not uncommon. "All this makes for plenty of movement in the barrel, and that's what we call the heartbeat of our EMILL. EMILL is a head of character that always shows new sides of itself in the glass. If you don't rush him, he rewards and surprises you with new aromas. For its young age, EMILL is a mature, complex and harmonious whisky. It has a beautiful length and a delicate smokiness in the finish," says Michael Scheibel.

Two whisky products from Scheibel are currently available under the brand name EMILL Stockwerk in drinking strength with 46% vol. and EMILL Kraftwerk in cask strength with 58.7% vol. "Anyone who would like to get to know our EMILL in person is cordially invited to visit us at the Scheibel Mühle in Kappelrodeck."
